Revolution is the second full-length album from K-pop girl group Kara. It is also the first studio album without Kim Sunghee and also the first featuring new members Goo Hara and Kang Jiyoung. It was released on online music sites on July 30, 2009, with a physical release on July 31, 2009. The album showed a more mature side from the group and also brought back some elements of the group's "strong female" image from their debut.

History

It was revealed in June that the group would return in late July 2009, with their concept to be "upgraded".[1] The first teaser pictures of the group were then released in mid-July, showing radical changes in the group's style.[2][3]

Background and release

The lead song "Wanna" was released a few days earlier than the album — July 28, 2009. The song quickly charted on various digital music charts.[4] The music video was released on July 29, with the full album being available on July 30.[4] Comeback activities commenced on July 31, beginning with KBS's Music Bank; the group performed both "Wanna" and "Mister".[5] After their performanced aired, "Mister" proved to be popular with viewers due to a "butt dance" that is featured prominently in the choreography.[5][6]

On August 30, 2009, "Wanna" won the "Mutizen Song" award from SBS's Inkigayo music program.[7]

Due to the overwhelming response that "Mister" received, Kara's overall popularity increased, with numerous advertisement requests coming in for the group; they had more advertisements in October 2009 than the previous two years.[8] This prompted the group to begin performing the song more on music programs in order to promote the album despite not being released as digital single or filming another music video for it.
